Black Warrant is a crime drama series by Netflix, which is based on the memoir, Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jail Jailer, by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury. The series was set in one of India's most infamous and notorious prisons- Delhi's Tihar Jail- in which the storyline revolves around that of Sunil Kumar Gupta, who was a very young officer soon caught in the corrupt world of the prison system.
As Gupta starts to understand how overt the corruption is within the jail, beginning with the involvement of guards and prison staff with the notorious inmate gangs, he encounters increasingly daunting moral dilemmas that challenge his sense of justice and integrity. The whole series unfolds in the intricate power play dynamics between inmates and those tasked with guarding them while trying to live through other such figures including serial killer Charles Sobhraj, adding further suspense and mystery behind the Tihar Jail bars.
