Introduction

Our trip to the award-winning documentary Supermen of Malegaon prepared us to do Superboys of Maleagaon, a warm and amiable tribute to the enthusiasm of small-town cinema lovers. Superboys of Malegaon is directed and written by Reema Kagti and is a story about Nasir Shaikh and his gang, who with little money and limited resources devise their own genre of filmmaking in the little town of Malegaon in Maharashtra. 

With high energy levels, coupled with crude sets and belly-laugh-inducing improvisations, their amateur film-making is a thing of a different kind.

Story & Screenplay

The movie revolves around Nasir (acted by Adarsh Gourav), a staunch believer with faith in the ability of narratives to influence the people. He goes with his fellow passionate yet amateurish companions to create cheaply made Bollywood spoofs that touch the commoners' hearts all over the neighborhood streets. 

The script treads the balance between humor, adversity, and inspiration in perfect equilibrium so that the viewers emotionally engage with them right from the initial shot till the final shot.

Performances

➖ The second half is slower with some repetitive scenes that could have been removed.

➖ Some of the supporting characters could have been developed more to add some added emotional depth to the story.
